We started the evening with a Goddess journal activity. What do you want in your life? Sometimes this is hard to know. We do however know what we don’t want. Those are easy! I don’t want to be overweight, I don’t want to be tired, I don’t want to be in debt!” We spend a short time writing down our don’t wants, then transferred them to do wants. For example, I want to feel healthy, I want to feel energy I want to feel financially free and in control. We then ripped out the don’t want page and threw it away. The want page is now a part of your Goddess journal to look to , add to and remind yourself of how you want to feel in your life. To live a financially free in control life, we had David Perry’s excellent advice, ideas and humor to help guide us on our journey.

Thank you David Perry for such an informative, enlightening, entertaining evening. To summarize the evening, David covered two out of the three biggest causes of conflict in marriages and relationships: family and money (sex is the third).  Seldom is only one party in a relationship the problem. Each member spends money in his or her own way and preference. What is necessity? What is a luxury? You don’t need friends to help you spend. If you are planning an evening out with friends and they choose the expensive restaurant, its okay to say no lets go somewhere else. Make good choices.  What was so interesting about the evening was David’s comments concerning how alike spending behaviors are to other disorders like eating, alcohol, drugs etc that are difficult to abstain from . “You cannot go through life without spending, unless this is Grateful Heiresses, not Grateful Goddesses!”  David made many great recommendations including if you are on a budget, you stay out of malls, stores and other places that would cause you to spend.  Decide what are your necessities, restructure your life and don’t care about what others think.

We all shared our splurges and asked how to handle them. One of my splurges is on my daily latte. I shared with the group that even that small change can be a big one in the long run. Although I have not cut that out, I have cut down. David suggested its okay to allow for small splurges now and then but if you feel you cannot pay with cash for something, and you are using a credit card, do not buy it.

David’s suggestions and ideas were so informative and helpful to all. How has your spending habits changed after this gathering? One Goddess shared with me that she now walks home from work a different route so she doesn’t pass by her favorite store anymore where she would often walk into. What are your splurges? Have your switched your routines so you are saving and leading a more truthful spending life?

Thank you again David Perry. If you have any questions regarding this evening, please post your comment and David will respond.

Thank you again Jessica Goldman and the All About Dance staff for hosting the evening. Thank you Goddesses for your enthusiasm and interest in the evening.
